In addition to reading literacy, the Bridges Academic Center of Excellence works to increase family financial literacy and to bridge the digital divide in computer knowledge, access and literacy.
Critical reading, or informational literacy, is a key component of the standardized educational tests and a focus of the common core curriculum. This skill involves comprehension, analysis and the ability to summarize. We incorporate these topics into our existing tutoring program and the SAT workshop, but plan to expand our offerings to include reading literacy.
Creative reading (ex: book groups)
Book fair events (ex: LA Times Festival of Books)
Remedial reading help where teachers work to bring students up to grade level
